Freshly graduated fashion designer Cyril Bourez impresses at the LA CAMBRE-MODE[S] SHOW18

03.06.2018 - Dries Tack

On the 1th and 2nd of June the Halles de Schaerbeek provided the magnificent decor for the LA CAMBRE-MODE[S] SHOW18.

La Cambre-Mode[s] was created in 1986 as the Fashion design department of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre. The school's 5-year curriculum is built upon two principles: style and fashion design.

Designing clothing is a way of responding to the surroundings. This personal touch is often lost in the midst of production, communication, and distribution of the majority of branded clothing. Fashion design, however, is less dependant on the economic logic of this process. That is why the creations are more intimate and innovative than the rest.

Over the years, the school produced some serious talent: Olivier Theyskens, Anthony Vaccarello (Yves Saint Laurent), Cédric Charlier, Julien Dossena (Paco Rabanne), Léa Peckre, Krjst (Erika Schillebeecks and Justine de Moriamé), Gioia Seghers, Doriane Van Overeem, Marine Serre (LVMH 2017 award) to name just a few.

An intense technical training, yearly internships and legendary annual public shows fulfil a rich and demanding study period. 49 students had the chance to showcase their talent to an international fashion jury and audience.

Belgian Boutique had the chance to enjoy the show last Friday. There we and got charmed and intrigued by the works of:

  • First year's Maiti Thomas and Ornella Maris
  • Second year's Loubna Ouaqqa
  • Third year's Hortense Tillet and Fernando Miro
  • Fourth year's Louis Appelmans

This year's graduate Cyril Bourez, however, impressed us the most. His talent and the 5 years at La Cambre combined with internships at Christian Wijnants, Jacquemus, Paco Rabanne, Y/project, and Acne Studios resulted in a very aesthetic, strong and luxurious men's collection. In it, he experiments with bold reds and intense pinks and transforms bourgeois classics into luxurious fashion.
