Architect Luc Deleu - the inventor of orbanism

08.04.2018 - Agne Steponaityte

Architect and urban planner Luc Deleu thinks globally. For him architecture in an ever-changing reflection of society. Topics like ecology, environment, and the friction between an individual and a group are often considered in his work. The artist created a manifesto and coined the term Orbanism - the global urbanism.

T.O.P. office is Deleu’s studio that questions the role of urbanism in our lives. At the moment, works from his series “Barricades” and “Mobile Medium University” are being showcased at Tatjana Pieters gallery in Ghent.

“Barricades” is a social commentary in a shape of a visual project. The structures are created from rubble, furniture and books. They represent the obstructions made from the residue of contemporary society.

Boats that are soaring the global waters with students on board is another project of Deleu. “Mobile Medium University” takes eager learners around the world throughout an academic year. This year is the third time the ship set sail and at the moment it’s touring Eurasia.
