ADAM – Brussels Design Museum returns with another unique exhibition : Designing the Night. Graphic Design or Belgian Club Culture, 1970-2000. From the 1st of March to the 29th of September 2019 you will have the chance to discover more about the graphic design of nightlife in Belgium.

DESIGNING THE NIGHT Graphic Design of Belgian Club Culture, 1970-2000

The exhibition brings together rare and exclusive works, including flyers, posters and invitations. For the most part, these treasures come from private collections and are presented to the public for the first time.

Curator Katarina Serulus investigated the link with punk graphics, the cross-fertilization between the aesthetics of disco and new wave, the style of the human body, the influence of technological developments, the ironic game with iconic brands and the increasing commercialization of the Belgian club scene. She found a wide range of styles, subcultures, musical genres, identities and creative ideas, all of which were fed by nightclub life since the 1970s to the early 2000s.

Designing the Night testifies to the incredible creativity in the graphic field of a few iconic clubs such as Mirano, Fuse or Boccaccio. The exhibition enriches museum programming and emphasizes that graphic design is also a form of design.
