Cannes loves Lukas Dhont's debut movie 'Girl'

At this moment, all the film industry's spotlights are directed to Southern France. Cannes Film Festival is in full swing and Girl, a film by Lukas Dhont, a young director from Ghent is impressing the professional audiences.

Girl is an intimate portrait of adolescence, gender, and identity. It tells a story of Lara (Victor Polster), a 15-year-old who’s trying her best to make it as a ballerina. Being born a boy doesn’t make Lara’s struggle any easier.

This is the first Cannes premiere for Lukas Dhont. At 26, the filmmaker has a bright future ahead of him. The film is shown in the Un Certain Regard category.
