29.08.2017 - Dries Tack

Award-winning auteur-filmmaker Jaco van Dormael just released his poëtic “Miniatures Belgitude” shortfilm for Delvaux. The director of some of the all-time greatest hits of Belgian cinema such as “Toto le Héros“. managed to mix luxury, prestige and creativity with the playful humour Belgium is famous for.

Jaco van Dormael took hold of Delvaux’s Miniatures Belgitude and ran with them, interpreting them in his fashion, drawing inspiration from faded childhood memories and a sense of cheerful fantasy, animated with surrealist images choreographed by Michèle Anne de Mey.

In seven mini animated very short films, each just a few precious seconds long, like poetic tableaux vivants, full of references and clins d’oeils. One for each Miniature, seven episodes set to music by the singer composer An Pierlé, who previously collaborated with van Dormael on the original soundtrack of the film “Le Tout Nouveau Testament“ (“The Brand New Testament“).

The Brillant, Delvaux’s most iconic bag, was imagined, conceived, and created by the architect Paule Goethals on the occasion of the 1958 World’s Fair, the first of its kind in the post-war era, attracting 42 million visitors following its inauguration by Baudoin I, King of Belgium. Composed of 64 distinct pieces of leather and metallic accessories, the Brillant is an enduring expression and epitome of all the ingenious and refined savoir-faire of Delvaux’s master artisans.

Delvaux’s Miniatures Belgitude will be available in select Delvaux boutiques starting September 2017.
